AMAZON Fire TV users can save so much time by using an often-overlooked feature.

If you’re using your Fire TV like a regular set-top box or smart TV, you’re making a big mistake.

That’s because the Fire TV has Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant built-in.

If you have a Fire TV with an Alexa-enabled voice remote, you can use the microphone/Alexa button to control your television much more effectively.

One of the best tricks is simply finding content quickly.

Try saying “Alexa, find Rings of Power” and you’ll quickly navigate to the hit Tolkien spin-off.

You could do the same with any movie of your choosing.

But even if you don’t know which TV show or movie you want to watch, Alexa can still speed things up.

You can ask the virtual assistant to launch specific apps, taking you straight into Netflix or HBO Max.

Similarly, you can ask for more vague requests if you only have a rough idea of what you want to watch.

For instance, you could say “Alexa, find [actor] movies” to surface films that feature your favorite star.

And it’s also possible to ask Alexa to show you movies or TV shows from a genre – like comedy or horror.

This could save you so much time.

Other Alexa controls

Of course there are plenty of other ways to control your Fire TV using your voice.

Alexa can play, pause, rewind and fast-forward, and skip through episodes too.

You can also ask Alexa to start the movie or TV episode from the beginning if you’ve already started watching it previously.

It’s even possible to use your voice to scroll within apps by saying “Alexa, scroll right” or “Alexa, scroll down”.

Then you could request a specific item by saying something like “select #3” or “play #6”.

You can navigate to live TV channels using Alexa.

And you can request to watch trailers for specific movies too.

You can ask for specific episodes and seasons of a TV series.

If you want to watch something later, try asking Alexa to add a movie to your watchlist.

And remember that your Fire Stick’s Alexa works just like it does on smart speakers.
