It can attack your device through malicious apps, compromised emails, or non-secure WiFi connections.

To help prevent this, Google has shared a number of handy tips for users to try.

TURN ON GOOGLE PLAY PROTECT

Dubbed Google Play Protect, this feature can help keep your device clean of dangerous malware.

This tool, once enabled, can do things like check apps to see if they’re safe before you download them.

First, open the Google Play Store app and then tap your profile icon in the top right.

Now tap Settings, and then look under About to see if your device is Play Protect certified.

To turn it on or off, open the Play Store and then tap the profile icon.

Tap Play Protect > Settings and then turn Scan Apps With Play Protect on or off.

UPDATE SOFTWARE

Always make sure that your device is updated with the latest software.

These can keep your device safe from bugs and tackle any glitches.

To check for updates, open your device’s Settings app > Tap System > System update.

REMOVE UNTRUSTED APPS

Google recommends that users uninstall any apps that are untrusted.

This includes apps that from sources outside the Google Play Store.

On your Android phone or tablet, open the Settings app > tap Apps & notifications > See all apps.

Tap the apps you want to uninstall > Uninstall. Follow the on-screen instructions.
