PlayStation Plus subscribers will be given access to a bank of free titles from Sony Pictures – the film production branch of Sony.

The platform will host behind-the-scenes content, director’s commentaries and include early access for hardcore movie buffs.

It also boats the “largest collection of IMAX enhanced movies available on any service,” according to the company.

Previously, Sony offered this service to Bravia TV owners and folks with select Xperia devices under the app name Bravia Core.

You just need a PlayStation and PS account to download the app.

In a statement, Sony wrote: “Once you sign up for Sony Pictures Core on your PS4 or PS5, you will be able to buy or rent up to 2,000 movies straight from your console.

“At launch, this will include blockbuster hits such as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Uncharted, The Equalizer, No Hard Feelings, Bullet Train, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife, among others.”

It’s important to note that like with most streaming apps, you must be at least 18 years old to sign up.

You must also be aware that available movie titles will chop and change fairly regularly.

If you want access to the ad-free streaming and a back-pocket of 100 free movies, you’ll have to be a PlayStation Plus Premium member.

PlayStation Plus Premium and Deluxe customers will have access to exclusive perks, some of which are yet to be revealed, according to Sony.

“If you’re a PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe member, you’ll get access to a curated catalogue of up to 100 movies through the Sony Pictures Core app to stream on demand from the Sony Pictures library as part of your membership,” the company wrote.

“The catalogue, which will be ad-free and updated periodically, features movies such as Looper, Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, Elysium, and Resident Evil Damnation.

“There will also be additional benefits for all PlayStation Plus members, so stay tuned for more details.”

But don’t worry, you don’t need to be a PlayStation Plus member to buy or rent movies from the platform.
