Sony Pictures Core will be the new name of Bravia Core, a service that already lets users rent or purchase films on Sony’s Bravia TVs, and Xperia smartphones and tablets.

Bravia Core is being rebranded on these devices next year, and to celebrate, Sony is also launching the service as Sony Pictures Core on PlayStation consoles today.

The new service will offer PS4 and PS5 owners more than 2,000 films to rent or buy directly from their consoles.

These will include the latest Spider-Man film ahead of the new video game’s release, and the Uncharted film, based on the PlayStation game series of the same name.

The Equalizer, No Hard Feelings, Bullet Train, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife are also among the blockbusters announced by Sony.

PS gamers in the US will be able to buy the very recent Gran Turismo movie, inspired by the racing video game series, starting today.

The Gran Turismo film will become available for purchase via the service in the UK soon.

Buyers of the movie will get free in-game perks in the latest Gran Turismo 7 video game, including cars featured on the big screen.

There will also be a new way for PS4 and PS5 owners to watch films for free, if they have a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.

Subscribers of the highest tier of PS Plus will get access to a catalogue of up to 100 films at no additional cost.

Sony promises to update the free catalogue with new films periodically.

This means players will be able to watch them whenever they want as part of their PS Plus Premium subscription and without ads.

Sony also promised additional perks for all PlayStation Plus members, regardless of tier, but these are yet to be revealed.

PlayStation console owners should be able to find the new Sony Pictures Core app in the Media section on PS5 and on the PS Store on PS4.
