IF you’re having Wi-Fi issues with your smartphone, the case you’ve chosen could be to blame.

Certain materials can impact your Wi-Fi use and sometimes a fashionable case is actually ruining your internet and app experiences.

According to the website Tech Evaluate, phone cases can affect your signal and Wi-Fi speed.

Most case manufacturers should take this into account but it’s always worth checking what material they’re using.

Tech Evaluate states: “Most of the case materials in use today will not absorb or block any substantial amount of Wifi or Cellular signal but some certainly can.”

Metal is one of the materials that should be avoided.

Certain phone manufacturers address this on their support pages.

For example, the One Plus support page states: “Remove your phone case, if there is one; a metal case may block the reception of the signal.”

Wi-Fi signals come in the form of radio waves and these are electromagnetic.

That means metal can absorb them and reduce the strength of your Wi-Fi.

It’s for this reason that Wi-Fi experts advise keeping metal away from internet routers.

You should also avoid smothering your phone with a case that makes it overheat.

Overheating a phone can leave it with performance issues.

A lot of cases are made out of leather, rubber, plastic, or silicone.

They’re three materials that shouldn’t have a negative impact on your signal or Wi-Fi speed.

If in doubt, check your phone manufacturers website for advice specific for your device.
