HEINZ has released three new flavours of its baked beans in a move that has divided some fans of the legume.

The three new flavours are a far cry from the traditional tomatoey sauce-covered rendition, as the new varieties venture into the world of Indian cuisine.

New flavours Tikka, Jalfrezi and Vindaloo will become available in Asda beginning on October 5.

The debut coincides with National Curry Week, giving Brits new options of ways to spice up their beans on toast.

Up to 40% of Brits are adding spices to their beans at home already, but the flavours may divide some who prefer the traditional taste.

The Tikka Masala style beans come in a warmly spiced, tangy sauce, while Jalfrezi packs a punch with its heat, and the Vindaloo is fiery with notes of chili.

Alessandra de Dreuille, director of meals and insights for Heinz, said: “We think it’s about time that two of the nation’s favourite dishes, curry and Heinz Beanz, came together, and as soon as we heard that Brits were adding spice to their Beanz, we knew we were on to something!”

The new flavour announcements comes after some Heinz lovers realised the company had cut the number of beans and upped the sauce in their cans.

The 415g cans went from 51 per cent beans to 50 per cent this year. It means about a 4g reduction in beans — or an estimated ten fewer — in a tin.

Meanwhile, the price has gone from £1 to £1.40 in the past year.

Kraft Heinz spokeswoman claimed it was three fewer beans in a can.

She said it was down to this year’s crop of beans having less moisture in them, then swelling more when cooked.

She added: “It’s simply nature at play and could change again next year.”

Another Heinz lover shared the hilarious moment he opened a can to find just a single bean swimming in tomato sauce.

After finding his one flying solo, he posted a video on Twitter and tagged manufacturer Heinz in the hope they “would see the funny side”.
