Universal Music has penned a new deal that will direct more money towards musicians amid an industry row over streaming.
The agreement between the world’s largest record label and French music streaming firm Deezer could raise payouts to professional artists by 10 per cent.
It comes amid concerns musicians do not get a fair cut when their songs are streamed on services such as Spotify and Apple Music.

Chief executive Jeronimo Folgueira said: ‘This is a massive change in the way the industry will work.’ Founded in 2007, streaming site Deezer has 16m active monthly users.
The new model for royalties will launch in France next month, with plans to expand to other countries from 2024.
Universal is currently in talks with rival streaming platforms including Spotify about how they can revamp their royalties
