APPLE has created a useful iPhone feature that prevents you from being forced to face-unlock your phone.

It’s very easy to remember because it only requires a simple button trick.

Face ID is extremely secure, with Apple reporting just a one-in-a-million chance of failure.

But the face-unlocking tech has an obvious downside: you using your own face to open the device.

It’s entirely possible that someone could force you to unlock your iPhone using Face ID.

Thankfully Apple has built a special shortcut to instantly disable Face ID temporarily.

If you think you’re about to be forced to unlock your phone via Face ID, hold the Side Button and either of the volume buttons.

You’ll need to keep them pressed down simultaneously for about two seconds.

This will work from anywhere on the iPhone, including the Lock Screen.

It’ll trigger the Emergency SOS display, with an option to shut off your iPhone or view Medical ID.

But as soon as the screen appears, Face ID and Touch ID are also disabled.

The only way to get back into your phone will be to enter the passcode.

And you’ll just have to pretend you don’t remember it.

This stops someone from holding your iPhone up to your face to unlock it.

Lock and Erase

Another handy tip to try if your iPhone is stolen is Lock and Erase.

You can go to the iCloud website – or the Find My app on another Apple device – and look up your stolen handset.

Then you’ll have the option to mark your device as lost and remotely lock it with a passcode.

Doing this will also disable Apple Pay on the device.

You can also remotely erase the device so that the person who has it can’t access your info.
