A HUGE bargain chain has launched a closing down sale after a wave of closures.

Poundstretcher is shutting more locations after pulling the shutters down on several others already this year.

The discount retailer is advertising closing down sales in two of its high street locations.

The Poundstretcher shop in Watford Road, Cotteridge is set to be close its doors for good, local news reports.

Posters advertising 20% off all store items have been stuck up across the front of the shop.

Meanwhile, the same posters have been spotted on the windows of the Wealdstone branch in Harrow too.

Although this branch is said to be reopening its doors at a later date following a refurbishment, according to Harrow Online.

Poundstretcher has not given exact dates for the closures of either branch, and has declined to comment on the closures.

It follows a handful of other locations shutting up shop in recent weeks.

Its London Road store in Grantham closed last month after hosting a closing down sale.

Another Poundstretcher in White River Place, St Austell, is also set to close its doors before September.

The Hawley Retail Park store in Hinckley shut on July 8, while its Penzance shop in Cornwall closed on July 5.

The Poundstretcher in Churchill Way Retail Park store in Leyland also shut for good back in June.

But the bargain chain is in the middle of expanding its presence on the high street.

In February it revealed plans to open 50 new stores by the of the year.

The discounter also opened 30 locations in 2022 and has 350 shops nationwide.

The news comes after bargain retailer Wilko fell into administration yesterday, putting all of its 400 stores at risk of closing.

Other chains have been feeling the pinch too.

Brick and mortar stores have also seen a lack of footfall due to consumer habits switching to online shopping.

For example, Boots has begun to close down the first of 300 stores this week, and with more to follow this summer and into autumn.

High street fashion chain New Look has also closed another two stores following a string of closures earlier this year.

Argos is pulling the shutters down on a total of seven shops this month.

Supermarket chain Iceland has already pulled down the shutters on just under a dozen shops this year.

Although, some chains have managed to defy high street troubles and are actually set to open new shops.

These include discount chains like Poundland which is set to open 15 shops in the coming weeks and Greggs which is aiming to open 150 new sites this year.

Meanwhile, more than a dozen high street shops are set to close their doors for good in August.
