Carla Diaz, co-founder of Broadband Search, revealed her tip to Homes & Gardens magazine.

She said: “A great way to increase the speed of your Wi-Fi is to remove unnecessary connections from your network.

“All Wi-Fi connections have a limit known as bandwidth. The more devices that are actively using your Wi-Fi connection, the more bandwidth will be used up.”

There are two ways to remove unnecessary connections in your home.

You could walk around and disconnect any devices you aren’t using.

The quicker alternative to this is accessing your router’s admin page and removing any unnecessary connections.

You may even spot devices that don’t belong to you jumping on your network.

Your router’s settings page should show all the internet traffic occurring in your household.

A lot of routers will give you a list of devices that are using the network and how much data each one is using.

Getting to this admin page can differ slightly depending on the router you have.

It’s best to check with the specific developer’s website for the most up-to-date information.

In most cases, you need to work out your router’s IP address and then type that into a web browser to access an admin page.

Here, you’ll be able to enter your router’s login details to reach your security settings.

Search for the connected devices section and then click to disconnect those that you don’t need.

If you do spot strangers using your network, remove them and change your Wi-Fi password right away.
