The supermarket has partnered with the popular dessert parlour to launch a number of “cafe within a cafe” sites.

The Creams cafes will be located in Tesco cafe outlets and offer shoppers a wide range of sweet treats.

Customers will be able to choose from 24 different flavours of gelato ice cream, as well as a range of waffles, milkshakes, cookie dough, crepes and sundaes.

The first Tesco-run Creams Cafe will open at Tesco Extra Gateshead in Newcastle on August 3.

This will be followed by an opening at Tesco Extra in Glasgow on August 5.

A further four to five sites are planned to open later this year, but the exact locations are yet to be confirmed.

It comes following a trial of a standalone Creams cafe in Tesco Extra Streatham, which began in November last year.

Tesco cafes will continue to offer customers their usual selection of breakfasts, light meals and hot beverages, as well as a range of baked goods.

But customers can expect to see a new-look cafe with features such as fluorescent detailing, graffiti-esque street art, skateboards and neon signage.

Creams was founded in 2008 and has around 100 stores across the UK.

Is famed for its gelato which is produced daily using Italian-sourced ingredients, as well as other sweet treats such as waffles, crepes, doughnuts and sundaes.

Adam Martin, chief executive officer of Tesco family dining limited said: “Following the proven success of Creams Café across the nation and its wide appeal, we are thrilled to be working together on this exciting venture.

“The Creams Cafe brand appeals to our strong family-centric demographic and we are confident that this new partnership will prove a hit with our customers across the nation.”

Earlier this year Tesco also announced that it will be opening Greggs franchises in some of its supermarkets.

And in May Sainsburys also revealed it would be following suit as it announced a new Greggs store opening in one of its supermarkets.

Last year Sainsbury’s also announced it would be shutting 200 cafes and replacing them with chains including Starbucks and Gourmet Burger Kitchen as part of a shake-up of its stores.

This comes as many supermarkets look to move away from having their own services.

Tesco has made another big change to please its shoppers this week.

The supermarket lifted a rule they had put in place around purchasing one household staple since November last year.

And other shoppers have been rushing to take advantage of some big cut-price deals in-store.
