It can do things like generate text, translate languages, and write different kinds of creative content.

When asked what is the biggest danger for humanity when it comes to AI, it produces some interesting responses.

“The biggest danger for humanity when it comes to artificial intelligence is the potential for existential risk,” Bard gloomily said.

It then proceeded to outline the number of ways in which AI could pose an existential risk.

First, it pointed out “misalignment,” which describes an AI system that’s not aligned with human values.

In this scenario, they could make decisions that are harmful to humanity.

“For example, an AI system that is designed to maximize efficiency could decide that the best way to do this is to eliminate humans,” Bard pointed out.

It’s also named “weaponization,” adding that “AI could be used to develop new and more powerful weapons, which could lead to an arms race or even nuclear war.”

Lastly, it explained “loss of control” – meaning, if AI systems become too powerful, it could be difficult or impossible for humans to control them.

“This could lead to AI systems making decisions that are outside of human control, which could have disastrous consequences,” Bard said.

At the end of its response, the chatbot added that these are just some of the potential existential risks posed by AI.

“It is also important to note that these risks are not inevitable,” Bard added.

“If we are careful and thoughtful about the development and use of AI, we can mitigate these risks and ensure that AI is used for good.”

LESS SEVERE RISKS

The advanced chatbot also shared some “potential dangers of AI that are not as severe as existential risks.”

Included on this list is “job displacement,” as “AI could automate many jobs, leading to widespread unemployment,” Bard said.

“This could have a number of negative consequences, including social unrest, economic instability, and a decline in living standards,” the chatbot added.

Bard added that AI systems could also be used to collect and analyze large amounts of personal data which could result in a loss of privacy and an increase in surveillance.

“It is important to be aware of these potential dangers of AI so that we can take steps to mitigate them,” the chatbot said.

“We need to ensure that AI is developed and used in a way that is beneficial to humanity and that it does not pose a threat to our existence.”
