A surge in reports was picked up by Down Detector on Monday.

Now many are presented with error messages whenever they try to go on the site.

Why is Archive of Our Own not working?

According to the site’s status Twitter account, AO3 has been hit by a DDoS attack.

DDoS stands for distributed denial-of-service.

It’s when an attacker deliberately floods a website with loads of visits.

The victim becomes so swamped with web traffic that it grinds to a halt.

At 4.45am UK time, AO3 tweeted: “We’re still working to mitigate the DDoS attacks.
