IF your PS5 is already starting to get full, don’t panic – it’s possible to expand the console’s storage.

There are two ways to do this, so you can keep loads of games installed.

After all, games like Call of Duty can take up well over 100GB of storage.

And even though your PS5 has an 825GB SSD, only 667GB of that is actually usable.

The first way is to plug in an external hard drive or solid-state drive via USB.

This will immediately boost your storage while the unit is connected to the PS5.

The catch is that you can’t play PS5 games using this method, as the storage won’t be fast enough.

However, you can play PS4 games using this method – freeing up space on your PS5 for native games.

There is another method that’s coming – but isn’t available yet.

The PS5 has an expansion port that will eventually let you add M.2 SSD storage.

This can be used for installing and playing PS5 games as if they were on the console.

Sadly, Sony hasn’t confirmed when this support will arrive.

All we know is that you’ll need to wait for a software update “after launch” – which still hasn’t arrived yet.

Sony also hasn’t confirmed the minimum performance level of this drive.

So don’t rush out and buy an M.2 SSD drive just yet, as you’ll need to make sure you get the right specifications.

For now, we recommend that you hold off on purchasing any M.2 SSD drives intended for use with PS5,” Sony explained.

“We will share more details on recommended drives in the future.

“M.2 SSD storage functionality will come to PS5 after launch with an upcoming system software update.”

At the very least, it means you shouldn’t panic too much about PS5 storage space now – because a solution is coming.
