Families with disabled children will no longer have to pay costly court fees to access child trust fund cash.
Under current rules, only the child can access these tax-free accounts when they turn 18 – unless they are terminally ill.
This means that if children lack mental capacity their parents must apply to the Court of Protection to withdraw the money and pay a £365 fee.
But yesterday the Ministry of Justice announced that these families can request the fees are waived.
However, experts say there are still too many hoops to jump through, including paying for costly medical reports and filling out around 42 pages of forms.
Plus it could take as long as eight months for the application to be approved.
Philip Warford, managing director at Renaissance Legal, says: ‘Parents will still have to undertake an enormous amount of time-consuming, complex work.’
A new working group has been formed to consider other options.
