The moment that Love Island fans have been waiting for is almost finally here, with Season 10 finally kicking off on Monday.

To celebrate the imminent launch, a man has used AI to create the ‘perfect’ Love Island contestants.

Duncan Thomsen, 53, a freelance film editor from Brighton, trawled back through all previous nine series to see which couples have won the show so far.

Then, using AI, he mashed photos of the winners together to make generic islanders, solely based on their looks.

So, are his creations your type on paper?

To create the perfect Love Islanders, Duncan used the software Midjourney, through the application Discord.

While Duncan asked the software to mash up photos of all the past winners of the show, he explained it was a lengthy process, because the AI requires ‘absolute description’.

He said: ‘I’ve taken all the previous winners’ photos and images and merged them together.

‘That resulted in a range of different looks, and gave a variety of generic contestants.

‘Then I added in details of nationality and race, and played with aspects such as colour, brightness, effect, style and background.

‘I had to get the photos looking like they’d come straight out of ITV – like they’d been on the show.

‘It took me about a day to do all of them.

‘I think they look very real people.

‘It’s just another amazing example of what AI is capable, and the thought of a virtual Love Island is hilarious.

‘[The show] is fake enough on TV so I don’t think that aspect would matter too much!’

In the future, Duncan believes an AI version of the programme could even air.

He said: ‘Soon, I predict an AI version of Love Island will be broadcast on our screens using islanders like the ones I’ve created.

‘People will be voting for a couple that don’t even exist!’

His creations come shortly after AI was asked to create the ‘perfect’ man and woman – and it suggests gentlemen prefer blondes, while women like ‘tall, dark, and handsome’ men.

The Bulimia Project, an eating disorder awareness group, asked AI to produce the ‘perfect’ male and female bodies, according to what gets most engagement on social media.

Researchers from the organization found that the most desirable women had blonde hair, olive skin, brown eyes, and slim figures, while the ‘perfect’ male had dark, smoldering eyes, chiseled cheekbones and defined muscles.

Most of the AI results appeared to play up outdated standards of beauty – caucasian yet tanned, slim yet muscular, and overwhelmingly blonde – which hints at the tool’s implicit biases.
