PLAYSTATION announced a new handheld console at the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase.

The company previously stated that it would no longer be making handheld devices following the Vita.

This is because the Vita was a commercial flop due to its cost and expensive memory cards.

PlayStation soon removed support and there are not many first-party games available for the console.

Code named Project Q, the new handheld console is not a successor to the PlayStation Vita.

Instead, it will be streaming games from your PS5 to the handheld remotely.

This will work similar to the Wii U gamepad in that you will be able to play the games from your main console away from the big screen.

The added benefit is that as long as your Project Q and your PS5 are connected to the internet you will be able to play anywhere in the world.

The Vita had similar functionality with the PS4, though this was rarely used.

However, unlike the Vita the new handheld will not have its own library of games, and instead will require users to have a PS5 in order to play.

There is no name, price, or release date currently available for the new console that is a way from release.

However, a first look at the design was revealed, and opinion is mixed so far.

The console looks like a mobile with one half of a DualSense controller attached to each side.

It’s possible that this isn’t the final design however, as there is still time until launch.
