There’s nothing more embarrassing than firing off a quick message on WhatsApp, only to later discover that it contains a mortifying typo.
Thankfully, WhatsApp has us covered, following the launch of a new Edit button.
The button allows you to amend your messages up to 15 minutes after sending them, without showing the recipient the edit history.
Meta founder, Mark Zuckerberg, posted about the new feature on his Facebook page, writing: ‘You can now edit your WhatsApp messages up to 15 mins after they’re sent!’
In response, several grateful fans have revealed their messaging horror stories, including one who accidentally messaged their supervisor ‘Good morning Madman.’

The replies on Zuckerberg’s post are full of people joking about the embarrassing mistakes they’ve made on WhatsApp.
‘I once texted my supervisor “Good morning Madman” instead of Good morning Madam, and didn’t realise on time. She sent me a screenshot 10 days later! This is helpful…’ one user wrote.
‘Now you’re bringing this after I sent my boyfriend “Ben” instead of ” bae” and he left me,’ another added, while one quipped: ‘I once wrote “my condoms” instead of my condolences in a family group.’
And one joked: ‘I remember sending my ex this message…”baby, I need a breakup now” instead of “baby, I need a breakfast”. And that was the end of the relationship.’
WhatsApp announced the new Edit tool in a blog post this week.
‘From correcting a simple misspelling to adding extra context to a message, we’re excited to bring you more control over your chats,’ it said.

To use the new tool, simply long-press on a sent message and choose ‘Edit’ from the menu.
Edited messages will display ‘edited’ alongside them, so your friends will be aware of the correction, although they won’t be able to see the edit history.
‘As with all personal messages, media and calls, your messages and the edits you make are protected by end-to-end encryption,’ WhatsApp added.
The edit tool has started rolling out to users globally and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.
