Posting on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook page one shopper clocked the discounts after bagging five items for less.

The Co-op customer said: “My local Co-op, doing five items for £5 if you have a Co-op card, or five items for £6.”

The shopper managed to grab a box of Birds Eye potato waffles, mixed veg, chicken burgers, a box of Solero’s and three classic magnums all for a fiver.

If a customer was to buy the same items without a Co-op card they’d pay an extra £1.

To illustrate the savings from Co-op’s “Freezer Favourites” offer – here’s how much each item costs individually:

  • Birds Eye Mixed Vegetables (340g) – £1
  • Red Berry Solero (x3) – £2.40
  • Birds Eye Mini Potato Waffles (456g) – £2.45
  • Birds Eye Chicken Burgers (x4) – £2.95
  • Magnum Classic (x3) – £3.50

Shoppers were quick to responds to the Facebook post and comment on the savings.

“My store is doing this too,” said another.

A third shopper said: “This is a good deal if it involves Magnums!”

Co-op introduced its new “Members Price” offer in April.

The cheaper prices can save the average member up to £300 a year on their grocery bills, the supermarket said.

But those who aren’t members of the scheme won’t benefit from the lower costs.

It was launched only days after The Sun revealed that Sainsbury’s was introducing lower prices for Nectar card members to rival Tesco’s Clubcard Prices.

Since April 19, Co-op members who scan the app at checkout can get money off on almost 15 products.

Those who take advantage of its popular freezer filler deal outlined above will save an average of £8 per deal.

Members can also save £1.45 on its award-winning irresistible pizzas, £1.90 on ready meals, £5 off wine and extra money off Co-op’s British BBQ lines and fresh fruit ranges this summer.

They also save more than non-members on Co-op’s lunchtime meal deal – members pay £3.50, compared to £4.00 for non-members.

New deals will pop up every three weeks and the discounts are available across all Co-op’s 2,400 food stores.

How does Co-op’s loyalty scheme work?

The Co-op membership enables shoppers to earn 2p for every £1 spent on own-brand products.

The pennies earned back are stored in the member’s digital wallet a digital balance is tallied with your spending.

You can then spend the rewards you earn on most products in-store.

Customers also get access to personalised offers every week and exclusive member deals.

Members also get access to the new discounted Member Prices.
