To celebrate the King’s Coronation this weekend the posh shop has released a royal themed Colin cake complete with an edible crown.

The popular chocolatey treat has had various different looks over the years to celebrate events.

But it seems that his royal debut has gone unnoticed by some, despite being released at the end of April.

Fans of the cake have taken to social media this week to voice their excitement after spotting the change.

One wrote: “Don’t really feel any type of way about the Coronation but I’ll be DAMNED if I don’t get a coronation Colin the Caterpillar.”

Another said: “Very excited that we managed to get a Colin the caterpillar cake ready for the Coronation or should we say Colination.”

A third Tweeted: “Don’t care less about the Royal family but the Coronation Colin the Caterpillar looks right up my street.”

And a fourth wrote: “Definitely getting this. Had one last year for the Queens jubilee so only right to have a Coronation one! King Colin!”

Not everyone was impressed with the change, one said: “Frankly I was doing fine ignoring the coronation until I saw ‘Coronation Colin the Caterpillar Cake’ but this monstrosity made me cackle.”

The Coronation cake costs £10 in store and £8.50 on the Ocado website, although it’s currently out of stock online.

It’s a caterpillar-shaped creamy chocolate sponge roll filled with chocolate buttercream and is covered in a milk chocolate shell.

Colin’s face is finished with a gold crown, and has feet made of white chocolate.

Colin isn’t the only caterpillar getting a Coronation makeover.

Each of the major supermarkets have their own versions of the popular caterpillar cakes.

Asda has dressed up its Letty cake in Coronation decorations, also with a crown too – it costs £7.

Sainsbury’s has done up its Wiggles Caterpillar cake with street party themed bunting decorations and its royal head piece. It will cost you £8.

While Waitrose has brought out its own Jewel the Jack Russell cake, complete with a doggy face for £9.925.

Fans of Aldi’s infamous M&S dupe Cuthbert the Caterpillar will be disappointed that he hasn’t had a royal debut.

Tesco and Morrisons haven’t dressed up their Slinky and Morris cakes either.

Over the years M&S’ Colin cakes have seen a number of different looks.

Most recently over Easter M&S released a chick version of of the cake and a themed Colin too.

Over Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Halloween the supermarket always makes sure to give him a whole new style.

If you are looking to give the Coronation Colin a go then you might want to be quick but there’s no telling how long he’ll hang around after the big day is over on Saturday.

Do bear in mind though that the regular version, and some of the other supermarkets’ dupes are cheaper so make sure to have a shop around.

Meanwhile, King Charles’ pudding of choice chosen for his official Coronation menu is the iconic trifle – we tested supermarkets own versions so you don’t have to.
