STARTING out on the career ladder needn’t mean earning peanuts.
Apprenticeships give workers the opportunity to train on the job while taking home a wage.

In some of the better paid training roles, you can earn close to £40,000 a year, according to job site Adzuna.
As more companies offer apprenticeships there is more choice and earning opportunities.
The average apprenticeship salary is £28,515, stats from Adzuna show.
And in April alone there were 44,493 apprenticeship openings.
The best earning trainees were found to be electrical apprentices, with the opportunity to take home £37,862 a year.
These tradespeople can easily go on to earn in excess of £40,000 a year.
And for these roles, you don’t need a degree to start.
However, some companies prefer applicants to have already completed a Level 2 electrician course – though it is not necessarily a deal breaker.

Mechanical and engineering apprentices, earning £35,569 and £32,673 respectively, were the next highest paid roles.
A degree or A-levels were not required but some hiring companies do prefer applicants to have at least five GCSEs, including Maths, Science and English.
Taking an apprenticeship is an alternative route into the legal sector, earning an average salary that tops £30,000.
And trainees can also earn above £26,000 for apprenticeships in accounting, design, and human resources.
Insurance, business and recruitment apprentices are among the other well paid training opportunities.
Andrew Hunter, co-founder of Adzuna, said: “Apprenticeships can offer an excellent pathway to break into an industry with little to no experience and gain hands-on experience through on-the-job training and mentorship.
“All apprentices get paid while developing their skills, and very often, if you are doing a really good job, there’s a high chance the employer will offer a permanent position towards the end of your apprenticeship.”
