IF you’re looking for a job paying up to £50,000 that doesn’t require a degree, look no further – but there’s a gross catch.

If you have a well-balanced palette and a taste for flavour, eating food all day sounds like a dream.

But there’s a major drawback to this position – the food you’re required to taste isn’t for humans – it’s for dogs.

Working as a dog food taster is a unique career, which can be very rewarding, according to Philip Wells, chief taster for Lily’s Kitchen pet food.

He told The Guardian: “Although dogs’ palates are different to ours, taste is an important quality check to ensure each different ingredient is perfectly balanced in just the right way.”

The positions often pay an entry-level salary of around £20,000, but if you have a taste for what dogs enjoy, you could earn up to £50,000.

Some dog food tasters even assist in developing new recipes for companies.

CareerMatch said: “Once you’ve popped a small bite in your mouth, you check for flavour (if you’re saying, “Yuck!” then pets probably are, too), texture, and consistency. Then you spit it out and move on to the next flavour.

“Pets the world over would give you a big hug if they could. Only the finest in pet dining makes it to store shelves, and you can consider yourself a connoisseur in pet delicacies. Bon appetit!”

Most ingredients in dog food are the same as what humans eat – fish, vegetables, meats, and animal derivatives.

If you’re lucky, a day on the job may involve tasting food made with high-quality lamb, chicken and rice.

If dog food taste testing is not your cup of tea, but you’re still searching for a high-paying job with no degree requirement – perhaps a Scrum Master is right for you.

Casino Gaming Managers can also earn impressive sums for their work – with an average salary of £70,000.

Other jobs can fetch high salaries too.

Commercial pilots can earn an average of £60,796, and also don’t require a university degree.

It comes as job site Adzuna listed 20 roles that don’t require a university education and pay more than the average UK annual salary of £33,000.
