It was no April fool this month when Agent Million visited two Premium Bonds holders to let them know they had won the £1million jackpot prize.

One of the winners, based in Croydon, purchased the winning bond just 10 months ago in June 2022. They have a total of £25,000 saved in Premium Bonds.

The other winner, from Somerset, purchased their winning bond in December 2014 and holds the maximum £50,000.

Jill Waters, retail director at NS&I, said: ‘A massive congratulations to our two winners from Somerset and Croydon who must have been delighted that their visit from Agent Million was not an April Fool’s joke.’

‘One of this month’s winners has won £1million with Premium Bonds after just ten months, whilst the other waited nearly ten years to hit the jackpot.

‘This just goes to show that, whether it is months or years, customers up and down the country can win big and feel the magic of Premium Bonds.’

Some notable winners

In this month’s prize draw, just over 5million prizes worth a collective £331million will be paid out. There were almost 120.5billion bond numbers eligible for the draw..

A bond holder based in Wandsworth, London, won a £100,000 prize from a holding of just £1,000, while a person from Wiltshire has won £50,000 from a £800 total holding having purchased the winning bond in February 2009.

In a true sign that good things come to those that wait, a bond holder based in Australia will be receiving £25,000 with a total holding of just £114. They purchased the winning bond in July 1976.

Similarly a person in Glasgow will receive £10,000 from a mere £20 holding having purchased the winning bond in November in 1979.

And there was also some beginners luck, as a bond holder from Durham who put their first £25,000 into Premium Bonds two months ago in February won £50,000.

Premium Bonds remain the nation’s most popular savings product with roughly 21million people.

NS&I decided to up the prize fund rate to 3.3 per cent in March – the highest rate in more than 14 years.

At its current rate of 3.3 per cent, the odds of each £1 Bond winning a prize will remain at 24,000 to 1 – but last month’s changes mean that the number of prizes worth £50 to £100,000 have now increased.

This is Money publishes a list of winners of prizes worth £1,000 and above here.

Customers will need their Premium Bonds holder’s number to use the website and their NS&I number or holder’s number to check via the prize checker app.

At the same time, they can also check for any unclaimed prizes owed to them.
