The supermarket giant has hiked Colgate by 100 per cent amid the cost-of-living crisis.

Just weeks ago the same 125ml tubes were being sold for £2.50.

One angry consumer complained on social media: “Tesco, £5 for toothpaste? Is this a joke?!”

Another wrote: “Getting atrocious, these price rises.”

Tesco is selling four varieties of 125ml Colgate toothpastes for £5 each, including Max Fresh Blue and Max White.

Others, such as Colgate Advanced White, cost £2.50 with a Tesco Clubcard.

Shoppers without the reward card still face a £5 charge at the checkout.

Another shopper wrote: “£5 for a toothpaste in Tesco, but if you scan your Clubcard you get it for £2.50.

“What kind of scam is this, Tesco?”
