IT’S crunch time for peanuts as rising costs push up the price of our favourite snack.

A 250g of KP peanuts cost £2.65 in April last year, but the same bag will now set you back £3 in most supermarkets.

Insiders claim savoury snacks have faced inflation due to the rising price of cooking oil, packaging and energy.

Own brand nuts will cost you less, but will they satisfy those afternoon munchies.

We asked Lynsey Hope, 41, from West Malling, Kent, to find out. Here she shares her verdict.

Lynsey says: “Lovely tasting peanuts and top marks for the resealable pack which made them easier to store once opened and kept them fresher for longer.

“The only downside here is the price – £3 a pack is a lot when we are all trying to shave money off our grocery bills.

“If you only like KP, they’ll have to be an occasional treat.”

Lynsey says: “Well roasted and delicious.

“I thought these were great quality and an amazing price from Waitrose, cheaper per 100g than Morrisons and Tesco and less than half the price of the big brand.

“Very addictive and I’ll definitely be buying more. Perfect with a glass of wine on a Friday evening.”

Lynsey says: “Loved that you could pick up a bag of these for just 46p, a great price from Aldi.

“To be honest, you’d be hard pushed to tell the difference between these and the ones from KP.

“They look identical, have the same roasted flavour and just the right amount of saltiness.

“100g of these works out 97p cheaper – that’s a saving of over £50 a year.

“Give them a go, you won’t be disappointed. A winning product from Aldi.”

Lynsey says: “I can’t help but feel disappointed with these Tesco nuts as I opened the bag expecting some super sized ‘jumbo’ peanuts.

“They are not jumbo, they are small. Smaller than some of the others in our test in fact.

“They were quite bland and not salty enough either. Disappointing.”

Lynsey says: “A little on the pricey side from Morrisons, I would have expected better value.

“The flavour was ok – perhaps not quite salty enough – and they were a decent size, but I found them a bit too hard.

“I was worried they’d break my teeth so didn’t eat too many.”

Lynsey says: “A jumbo sized bag so I probably ended up eating more peanuts than I should have.

“These Lidl ones would be great for a big party or gathering if you’re hosting lots of people because they are such great value.

“They didn’t taste quite as salty as KP and the crunch wasn’t quite the same but they were nice enough.
