A MAJOR pharmacy chain will be closing multiple branches this spring.

It comes as a list of retailers have shut shop as inflation rises.

Boots has confirmed it will be closing three stores in the UK this spring.

The stores are located in:

  • Salford Shopping Centre, Greater Manchester – shutting February (no specific date confirmed)
  • Church Street, Malvern – shutting March 11
  • The Port Arcades Shopping Centre, Ellesmere – shutting March 11

Boots has confirmed these closures were pre-planned and no other branches are known to be shutting.

Paperchase launches discounts ahead of 106 stores shutting forever

But many retailers have been closing down branches for other reasons – Paperchase, for example, fell into administration this week.

Tesco has since bought the brand, but Paperchase’s 106 UK shops aren’t included in the deal.

It means the stores could close and 820 jobs are still at risk.

All stores are currently open as normal in the meantime.

But any shoppers with gift cards are being urged to redeem them as soon as possible as they won’t be accepted after two weeks.

And other brands were forced to shut shop last year as a result of the covid pandemic.

In December, fashion company M&Co announced it would be plunging into administration for the second time.

The first was in 2020, when it closed 47 stores.

Joules, which makes fancy wellies, also collapsed before being bought by Next.

And earlier this year, Byron burger said it would be closing nine restaurants and cutting 218 jobs.

But it was announced just before new company Tristar Foods Limited bought it.

And that’s not all – digital and online banking has taken a firm lead in the industry, meaning many bank branches are set to close this year.

There are 266 planned closures for 2023 and a number have already pulled down their shutters this year.
