Be it an iPhone or an iPad, children don’t have to have full rein over the device.

Parents can tailor their Settings to avoid any unwanted activity.

Time limits can be set up for certain apps, filter web browsing, as well as buying restrictions on App Store and in-app purchases.

If a child is lucky enough to have their own Apple device, parents can essentially control a children’s Apple device usage through their own.

This is done by setting up the Family Sharing feature.

The Family Sharing feature allows up to six family members with Apple devices to share access to different Apple services, like an Apple Music plan.

When a child account is added to the Family Sharing group by an adult family member, Apple will give caregivers a range of options.

These include age-appropriate content restrictions, limiting ability to communicate with others, require your permission to purchase or download anything onto their devices, alongside scheduled screen downtimes and app time limits.

To set up Family Sharing, head to Settings > iCloud > Set Up Family Sharing > Get Started.

If parents want to limit or extend screen time, open Settings > Screen Time > Family > choose child’s name > Turn on Screen Time.

Parents can then choose downtime, app limits and content and privacy pages and adjust the parameters for each.

The hit Use Screen Time Passcode and follow the onscreen instructions.

This means children will have to type in a password chosen by the caregiver to evade downtime.
