The FTSE 100 closed up 0.89 per cent or 69.06 points to 7,794.04 this afternoon. Among the companies with reports and trading updates today are Tesco, Marks & Spencer, Persimmon, Centrica, Halfords, Whitbread, Asos and Hilton Food Group.
