A MUM has stunned shoppers by getting £70-worth of bargain items for under a fiver using a hidden trick.

Danielle Harper picked up three rugs from budget retailer B&M for just £3 after finding a handy hack on the shop’s app.

Despite the labels on the rugs advertising prices as high as £40, a barcode scanner in the app told a very different story.

Danielle posted the haul on Facebook, saying: “Finally found a Bargain at B&M by using the scanner in the App! Each rug – £1 each!”

She was soon bombarded with questions for eager shoppers and revealed that the scanner can be found at the bottom of the screen when the app is launched.

The tool scans the code on any item in store to see if the price has come down.

It usually picks up clearance and end of line products which are being sold off, but sometimes find goodies which staff haven’t yet marked down on the shelves.

Danielle wrote: “When you’re in store open the app onto the scanner and you can scan anything you want that they sell.

“I’ve been doing it a while and only just found these bargains so it can be hit and miss, but there’s lots of ‘sets’ etc in the sale after Xmas so it’s a great time to use the scanner to find some cheaper things as they don’t always mark them down on the shelves.”

Commenters were left amazed by the money-saving trick, with one saying: “We need to download the app and have a day out in B&M scanning for bargains.”

Another asked: “How did I not know about this?”

One woman said that the bar code hasn’t always been recognised on the scanner when she’s tried it.

However, another commenter replied that this could mean it’s even more of a bargain.

They said: “If the item isn’t recognised in the scanner and it’s older stock it’s usually 10p.

“Sometimes it can be new stock that isn’t on the system yet, but 90% of the time it’s 10p.”

A spokesperson for B&M said: “B&M aim to provide customers with an exciting shopping experience, always offering great products at fantastic prices.

“We’re delighted that our customers love finding a bargain deal as much as we do, and the scanner app has continued to grow in popularity since it launched.

“The dedication shown by the army of bargain hunters to seek out the best deals is proof that everybody loves a bargain.”
