On Monday evening, Virgin Orbit’s LauncherOne rocket attempted to make history as the first-ever orbital space launch from British soil.

And now footage captured by observer Ramón López has surfaced, showing the rocket’s quick descent to Earth.

López caught the jaw-dropping footage from Lanzarote, one of the Spanish Canary Islands off the coast of Africa.

In the video, LauncherOne’s first stage is seen crashing back to Earth at around 6:18 p.m. EST (2318 GMT).

Earlier that evening, the booster had successfully launched from Cornwall Spaceport in Newquay.
