You should regularly check your settings to see if you’re at risk.

Thankfully it’s very easy to do – once you know how.

Simply unlock your Google Pixel phone and open the stock Android Settings app.

Now tap Security and then look at the top of the screen.

This is where you’ll find your security status display.

The best readout is a green tick with four coloured segments, and the message No Problems Found.

This means that there are no security issues that you need to attend to.

You might also see Security Can Be Improved, with a segment missing.

This means you have some security adjustments to make before you’re in the clear.

The next level is Security May Be At Risk, and the tick has turned to a yellow exclamation mark.

You must take action to security your device or you may be in danger.

The highest level of danger is a red exclamation mark alongside the message Security Is At Risk.

“There are critical security issues which require your attention,” Google warns.

“Please review the security recommendations and take action to secure your account or device.”

You should follow the on-screen instructions to repair any critical security issues.

If you don’t, you may be at risk of being hacked.

A compromised device can have devastating consequences.

It could put your most private media and personal information in the hands of hackers.

And a severely compromised device could allow hackers to seize control of your bank accounts or other online funds.

Never ignore the red warning: it’s a serious risk if you fail to follow the advice.
