Samantha Dixon beats Tory candidate Elizabeth Wardlaw in first electoral test of Rishi Sunak era

Labour have easily held the City of Chester following a byelection in the seat, winning by a majority of more than 10,000 votes.

They had been widely expected to win as they were sitting on a strong majority from the last general election and opinions polls had given them double-digit leads over the Conservatives.
