Students will have a new route into a cutting-edge UK industry as England’s first space engineering apprenticeship launches next year.
Applicants will be trained in spacecraft manufacturing and satellite integration, as the Government attempts to create 30,000 new jobs in the space industry over the next decade.

Developed as a collaboration between the UK Space Agency, Airbus and the University of Leicester, it is the first space apprenticeship to be recognised by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education and approved by The Department of Education.
The first cohort of students will begin in January 2021, and other companies are in talks with ministers to launch similar schemes.
It comes as Airbus is awarded a new climate change space contract by the Government.
From space, Airbus will measure the light reflected off Earth’s surface, helping to track and predict climate change.
