Pubs and takeaways are pinning their hopes on the upcoming World Cup to boost sales.
Pub chain Young’s and Domino’s Pizza are both eyeing a step-up in business when the tournament kicks off next weekend.
The pizza giant is hiring 10,000 workers to gear up for the first game.

But pubs such as Young’s, which considers itself more of a ‘rugby pub’, is still expecting a lift. Boss Simon Dodd said: ‘We will be showing it [the World Cup], and the last two weeks of November will be good.’
Young’s reported sales of £186.5million in the six months to September 26, 6.2 per cent ahead of the same period before Covid struck. Profit jumped by a fifth to £23.9million.
Domino’s sales hit £344.7million in the third quarter, an 8.3 per cent dip from the same time last year.
