For successful long-term investing, getting the basics right pays off.

An investment portfolio built with solid foundations is more likely to ride out the storms and deliver profits over the years than one constructed from stocks bought at an emotional whim.

Shares bought in a rush due to the fear of missing out are often those that investors end up regretting purchasing.

But in a world where it is easy for instantly available investing, information overload and FOMO to combine, those basic principles can swiftly go out the window.

At the other end of the spectrum are savers who have built up substantial pots of cash but are missing out on the prospect of higher long-term returns from the stock market, because they are worried about investing and don’t understand how it works.

Fortunately, for those who’d rather get things right than chase the next get rich quick idea that might backfire, a new set of videos by ShareSoc – the not for profit organisation for individual investors – has launched to help them.

Investing Basics is a jargon-free, entertaining set of ten episodes presented by full-time investor and former TV journalist Glen Goodman.

Glen said: ‘Millions of people got the investing bug during the meme-stock boom last year, but most could have done a lot better if they’d had proper unbiased guidance, and that’s where Sharesoc’s Investing Basics comes in.

‘It’s fast-paced and fun, and gives you all the tools you need to succeed.’

The videos look at share and fund investing and cover everything from an introduction to investing, to how to supercharge your research, how to decide when to buy and sell and tips on how to discover great investments.

They are ideal for both those new to investing and experienced investors who could do with brushing up on the basics and having a good clean up of their portfolios.

This is Money has partnered with ShareSoc to help promote the videos, as we are keen for our readers and as many people as possible to get access to this engaging and useful piece of financial education.

We will be publishing the videos and excerpts on This is Money, with the first introductory video and second one on the miracle of compounding featured here.

But you can also go watch the entire series at the Investing Basics site
