Liz Truss has resigned as leader of the Conservative Party – making her Britain’s shortest serving Prime Minister and opening up another leadership contest.

Gilt yields, the FTSE 100 and the pound remained steady as Truss announced she would stand down with the Tories due to choose a new leader within a week.
