POSTIES can now pick up people’s parcels for sending on their rounds as well as deliver them.

Royal Mail’s new Parcel Collect is a boost to online shoppers and sellers and those working from home.

The service costs 72p plus postage or 60p for pre-paid return items.

Customers are able to pay online or via the Royal Mail app.

Initially, posties will collect only parcels but letters may follow later.

In order to use the service, offered Monday to Saturday, customers simply need to ensure they have already paid the correct postage to send their item.

When the item gets collected, the customer will receive an email notification that acts as proof of postage.

It is one of the biggest changes to the daily delivery since the launch of the postbox in 1852.

A spokesman hailed it as a “fantastic step forward for our customers”.

They added: “Whether you’re up against time and working from home, making a return, selling online or sending a gift to make someone’s day, Royal Mail Parcel Collect is here to help.

“The launch of Parcel Collect is part of our commitment to continuously make our services better and more convenient.”
