THE FBI and US Department of Justice are investigating the case of a hacker who leaked almost a hundred videos of Rockstar’s upcoming game, GTA 6.

Publisher Take Two has been working to take down the videos since they were uploaded online.

This involves issuing takedown notices, as the copyright holder of the game.

The videos were uploaded online illegally after Rockstar’s security was breached and a hacker managed to download early footage of the game.

Writing on GTA forums, the hacker asked to ‘negotiate’ with the company to prevent more videos and information from being released.

However, Rockstar has decided to go down the legal route, and now the appropriate authorities are involved.

Rockstar is working with Uber, who also experienced a security breach earlier this month.

The hacks were reportedly carried out by a group known as Lapsus, which has also been linked to other big hacks in the tech industry.

Microsoft and Nvidia were also reportedly hacked by Lapsus this year, where the group managed to access the companies’ private data.

In a statement, Uber said: “There were reports over the weekend that this same actor breached video game maker Rockstar Games.

“We are in close coordination with the FBI and US Department of Justice on this matter, and will continue to support their efforts.”

Following the attack, Rockstar released a statement claiming that, despite the leaks, GTA 6 will not be delayed.

It reads: “At this time we do not anticipate any disruption to our live game services, nor any long-term effect on the development of our ongoing projects.”

“Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned, and we remain as committed as ever to delivering an experience to you, our players, that truly exceeds your expectations.”

The studio also claims that it will release official footage of the upcoming game soon, when it is ready to do so.

Other developers expressed their condolences over the security breach as fans were disappointed at the current state of the game.

It should be noted that the footage stolen is from an early build of the game and will not reflect the final product.
