Will Wetherspoons be open over the September Bank Holiday?
Wetherspoons will open selected pubs early on the day on Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
The move will allow millions of mourners to get something to eat and drink on Monday, September 19.
Selected Wetherspoon pubs in London will open at 8pm and close at midnight on Monday.
However, most of the 851 “Spoons” pubs will open later than usual.
A spokesperson for the pub giant said: “Wetherspoon is opening its pubs in central London, rail stations and airports and all of its hotels from 8am until midnight on Monday 19 September.”
The remaining pubs outside London will instead operate at reduced hours.
Other businesses
Five of the UK’s largest pub, bar and restaurant chains have announced their venues will stay open for the Queen’s funeral on Monday.
That includes Greene King and Mitchell and Butler.
Shops that are closing include:
John Lewis and Waitrose
The John Lewis Partnership said it will shut John Lewis department stores and Waitrose supermarkets all day for the funeral.
Andrew Murphy, chief operating officer of The John Lewis Partnership, said: “We are deeply saddened by the death of Her Majesty The Queen.
“We will be closing our stores on the day of her funeral as a mark of respect, and because we believe this is the right thing to do for our partners and customers.”
It added there may be “a very limited number of Waitrose stores” near to the route of the funeral procession which remain open to serve members of the public nearby.
It stressed these shops would close during the funeral itself.
B&Q
Hardware giant B&Q is also closing all of its store.
A B&Q spokesperson said: “As a mark of respect for the State Funeral for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and to offer our colleagues the opportunity to pay their respects, we have taken the decision to close all our UK stores on Monday 19 September.
“Our click and collect and home delivery services will also be temporarily suspended on the day.”
Dunelm
Dunelm will be closing its stores as well as pausing delivery, click and collect and customer services on the day of the funeral.
It will reopen all shops the following day.
IKEA
Ikea said it is closing all of its store on Monday “out of respect for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
It said it made the decision to allow its worker to pay their respects.
