Ford Motor revealed its next-generation Mustang sports car Wednesday in a bid to appeal to enthusiasts who still want to feel the rumble of an engine under the hood.

The Dearborn, Mich., auto maker showed off the new model—its first redesign of the Mustang in nearly a decade—at an evening event at the Detroit auto show.
