A NEW iPhone is nearly upon us – and there may be some new colour options on offer.

As Apple prepares to unleash the long-awaited iPhone 14, The Sun examines the latest leaks and rumours when it comes to colours.

Each year rumours about new colour options swirl – but they don’t always come true.

An early leak back in April (sourced to Chinese social media site Weibo) suggested that we’d see a new purple iPhone colour option.

It’s claimed that this would be the case for both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.

And it was claimed that we’d see a new Sky Blue option for the iPhone 14.

There wasn’t a purple option offered with last year’s iPhone 13 models.

But Apple has shipped purple options in the past, including with the iPhone 11, iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini.

A later report by Apple blog MacRumors warned that we’d see several colours abandoned.

That would include pink and green being dropped for the iPhone 14, and Sierra Blue and Alpine Green being binned on the iPhone 14 Pro.

For context, here are last year’s colour options…

iPhone 13:

  • Green
  • Pink
  • Blue
  • Midnight
  • Starlight
  • Red

iPhone 13 Pro:

  • Alpine Green
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Graphite
  • Sierra Blue

Of course, it’s impossible to say exactly what colours Apple will offer.

In any case, we don’t have to wait long to find out the truth.

Apple sticks to a fairly regular release schedule for its flagship iPhone series.

This year, Apple is hosting a special event called “Far Out” on September 7.

The company hasn’t confirmed that a new handset will be unveiled at the glitzy affair – but it’s almost certain we’ll see the iPhone 14.

This year we’re expecting four models: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max/Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

On the Pro models, Apple looks likely to remove the “notch” at the top of the screen, and introduce a more powerful A16 processor.

We’re also expecting better cameras generally, including a possible astrophotography feature.

And storage could be ramped up to a whopping great maximum of 2TB.

The minimum storage on the Pro model, meanwhile, could start at 256GB. That’s double last year’s base storage.

All of the iPhone 14 models will run on Apple’s latest version of iOS.

There’s also talk of a new purple colour option – fancy!

Other gadgets to keep an eye out for may include…

  • A new Apple Watch 8
  • AirPods Pro 2
  • New iPad
  • AR or VR headset

Some of these products might come at a second event in October, early next year, another time completely, or not at all.

Sadly we can’t say for certain what Apple has been working on until the event is over.

Until then, take all leaks and rumours with due caution.
