FACEBOOK has spoken out about one of the weirdest outages the social network has ever experienced.

Users were stunned to see nothing but celebrity spam when they logged in on Wednesday.

The News Feed would only show posts on celebrity pages, causing an influx of odd memes.

Thousands of Facebook fans across the UK and US reported the issue.

Many feared the Mark Zuckerberg-owned platform had been hacked.

But the tech giant has now revealed what was behind the massive glitch.

A company rep said it was all down to a “configure change” that went horribly wrong.

But the full of extent of how that happened remains a mystery.

Posts sent to celebrity pages for the likes of Kim KardashianEd SheeranBillie EilishHarry StylesTaylor Swift and Bear Grylls were among those showing weird spam posts when the outage hit.

“I didn’t realise how many…weirdos there are who have nothing better to do that they have to surrender to posting random s*** to celeb pages on Facebook,” said one user.

A Meta company spokesperson said: “A configuration change caused some people to have trouble with their Facebook Feed.

“We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted and we apologise for any inconvenience.”
