The Atlantic hurricane season is now beginning weeks earlier than in previous decades as a result of rising ocean temperatures, researchers said in a paper published Tuesday in the journal Nature Communications.
The researchers said that with the first tropical storms of each year forming about five days earlier per decade since 1979, residents along the East and Gulf coasts should brace for the possibility of severe weather as early as mid-May.
