Amazon has just launched a surprise discount on the 4th-generation Echo Dot.

The mini-size smart speaker has been reduced from £49.99 to just £29.99 – that’s a 40% saving.

We haven’t seen any price drops on any of Amazon’s smart devices since the Prime Day sales last month.

Our guess is that Amazon has dropped the price of the Echo Dot by £20 simply because Currys has done exactly the same.

Amazon regularly reduces prices across its line of Echo speakers, Fire tablets, Ring doorbells, Blink cameras and Kindle e-readers.

In fact, our frank advice is to never pay full-price for any of these smart gadgets: you rarely have to wait for more than a month or two before prices fall.

The Echo Dot is one of the retailer’s most popular speakers: it’s arguably eclipsed the larger Echo.

These handy, globe-shaped audio devices are a perfect choice of budget speaker for a living room table, kitchen counter or bedroom shelf alike.

The in-built services of Alexa will do anything from play songs, relay the news and weather, take notes and operate other linked smart devices.

The sale price of £29.99 isn’t quite the cheapest we’ve ever seen for the fourth-generation Echo Dot (that would be £24.99), but it’s still a real bargain.

We predict far greater discounts by the time Black Friday rolls around, which is always the absolute pinnacle of the Amazon sales calendar.

Of course, November is a long time away: so if you want one of these pieces of tech for way less than usual, get buying now.
