ASDA has slashed the price of petrol – making it 12p a litre cheaper than the national average.

The supermarket has cut the price of petrol by 5p a litre and diesel by 3p to help drivers save money at the pumps.

Drivers filling up at Asda’s forecourts will pay on average 174p for unleaded and 185p for diesel.

According to latest Government figures, the average price of petrol was 186.67p this week, and for diesel, it’s 195.91p.

Asda has a total of 323 petrol stations across the UK.

AA fuel price spokesman Luke Bosdet said that this would save drivers £5 off the cost of filling up a tank of petrol.

It comes as fuel prices are rocketing, driven mainly by the  ongoing crisis in Eastern Europe.

Concerns have been raised about supplies being disrupted due to the war – which has caused wholesale prices to spike.

Asda isn’t the only company to lower its fuel prices.

It caused hundreds of drivers to queue up to fill up the cars for less at the garage.
