Mark Zuckerberg’s efforts to remake Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc. are off to a halting start, despite a new sense of urgency after the company posted its first-ever quarter of falling sales.

Meta on Thursday walked back some new Instagram features central to the revamp that had drawn swift user backlash. The company acted only hours after Mr. Zuckerberg defended the features’ introduction.
