MORE than four million families are buying lower-quality food and cutting back on baths to try to make ends meet, a report warns.

They are struggling, with soaring inflation — the highest in 40 years.

It is hitting 4.4million lower and middle-income families the hardest, says the report, by Abrdn Financial Fairness Trust.

Most were said to be trying to tackle rising energy bills — some were reducing the number of baths they had and others using the oven less.

Seven in ten said they had reduced the quality of food they ate.

Abrdn Financial Fairness Trust boss Mubin Haq said: “A more comprehensive plan is needed to ensure living standards do not sink even further.”
