As the Biden administration continued to pressure U.S. airlines to improve service, some in the industry pushed back, saying the government shared some responsibility for problems causing delays and cancellations.

Travel over the July 4 holiday weekend went more smoothly than at other recent peaks, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in an interview this week, but airlines still need to step up staffing and preparations to sustain improvements.
