But if punters at the chain’s pub in Brixton, South London, want to take away a bottle of the 11 per cent brew they will get a discount of a third.

Reforged 20th Anniversary Ale is made by the “artisanal” AleSmith Brewing Company in San Diego, California.

It is not proving too popular with the Brixton pub’s hipster clientele. Just one bottle has been sold so far, to a group of six lads who “absolutely loved it,” according to pub staff.

So we bought a bottle for punters to try.

One, Ben O’Neill, 22, said: “It’s a little thin. I’d definitely expect more from something so expensive. The most I’d pay is £45 for a pint.”

Banker Elliott Clark, 26, added: “It’s very syrupy and the taste is quite overwhelming.”

The pub’s general manager Andrew Barton said: “We like to highlight the different breweries around the world and give people the opportunity to try things they would never have before.”
