Crooks are advertising fraudulent driving licences for banned and unqualified motorists on Instagram.

Money Mail discovered more than half a dozen suspicious accounts on the social media site that claimed to sell fake driving licences for up to £400.

One had amassed more than 11,000 followers, while many showcased photographs of multiple licences as proof of stock.

Several promised to remove bans and points from offending motorists’ documents.

Another claimed customers could buy ‘full drivers’ licences without exams’.

It comes as a backlog means learners face waiting months to take their tests.

A DVLA spokesman confirmed the accounts Money Mail brought to its attention were scams to ‘obtain payment or personal information’ from victims.

Instagram says it has now removed the accounts and blocked linked devices from creating new ones.

A spokesman added: ‘Fraudulent activity including the selling of forged documents is not allowed on Instagram.’
